Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:
A one stop, comprehensive textbook, covering the three essential components of air pollution science. The Third Edition has been updated with the latest developments, especially the inclusion of new information on the role of air pollutants in climate change. The authors give greater coverage to the developing economies around the world where air pollution problems are on the rise.
The Third Edition continues to cover a wide range of air quality issues, retaining a quantitative perspective. Topics covered include - gaseous and particulate air pollutants, measurement techniques, meteorology and dispersion modelling, mobile sources, indoor air, effects on plants, materials, humans and animals. Moving away from classical toxic air pollutants, there is a chapter on climate change and another on the depletion of stratospheric ozone. A special feature of this new edition is the inclusion of a fresh chapter on air pollution mitigation by vegetation, mainly its role in maintaining a sustainable urban environment.
Recommended for upper-level undergraduate and postgraduate courses specialising in air pollution, both for environmental scientists and engineers. The new material included in the Third Edition extends its use by practitioners in consultancies or local authorities.

CHOICE Review
This primer on air pollution, now in its third revised edition (both 2nd ed., 2002, and 1st ed., 1997, by Colls), distinguishes itself from most other introductory works on this topic by its broad scope and semiquantitative orientation. Its 14 chapters address gaseous and particulate pollutants, mobile sources, air pollution measurements, meteorology, dispersion modeling, deposition, effects on plants and humans, ozone depletion and greenhouse gases, and regulations. Tiwary (Univ. of Newcastle, UK) and Colls (Univ. of Nottingham, UK) emphasize scientific concepts and engineering principles related to outdoor air pollutants, which are illustrated by numerous examples and applications. One chapter provides fundamental information about indoor air quality, and the final chapter gives capsule summaries of air quality legislation in several countries. The writing is accessible and generally clear, and most of the selected topics and examples are excellent. The quantitative material is helpful, and strong mathematical skills, beyond basic calculus, are not needed. This new edition incorporates material from the US, Europe, and Asia, although most examples are drawn from the UK. Though this may be a minor drawback for North American readers, this is overcome by the coverage and relevance of the material. Summing Up: Recommended. Upper-division undergraduate through professional collections. S. A. Batterman University of MichiganAuthor notes provided by Syndetics
