Booklist Review

Nowadays, expensive cookbooks are becoming travel guides as well. In a sense, the two belong together, since food and travel both demand lavish photography. Connery strays a bit from this trend in that she focuses on the people, history, and culinary traditions of Ireland, not on the pretty-as-a-postcard places to visit. But the same "I gotta see it" feeling emerges, especially after perusing the more than 150 recipes. Some, naturally, rely on ingredients not found easily on the New World's shores (e.g., nettles for nettle soup). Unfortunately, the small typeface might prohibit experimentation in the kitchen.
