CHOICE Review

The purpose of this book is to demonstrate the range of techniques available in standard PASCAL. The authors do this by presenting an annotated model PASCAL compiler, complete with run-time simulator and error analyzer, all written in PASCAL. Readers should be thoroughly familiar with PASCAL before starting the first page; those who like to pick through compiler code will find a real treat. Since PASCAL is not taught in this book and applications are not described, only PASCAL system implementers should find any real benefit from it. One of the stated goals is to place ``in the public domain a complete implementation of the International Standard,'' but the publisher still will not allow any part of the book to be reproduced without permission. The book has an excellent binding and physical appearance, but no illustrations. Recommended for PASCAL system programmers.-H.J. Bender, University of Maryland, University College
