Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

This revision brings the reader completely up to date on the evolving methods associated with increasingly more complex sample types analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography, or HPLC. The book also incorporates updated discussions of many of the fundamental components of HPLC systems and practical issues associated with the use of this analytical method. This edition includes new or expanded treatments of sample preparation, computer assisted method development, as well as biochemical samples, and chiral separations.

Previous ed.: 1988.

CHOICE Review

This is the second edition (1st ed., 1988) of a classic and well-received practical guide on high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Information from the first edition has been revised, expanded, and updated, and recent advances (particularly in areas of computer-assisted method development, analysis of biochemical samples, chiral separations, and preparative HPLC) have been added. Although the emphasis is on the practice of HPLC, the basic theory of liquid chromatography is clearly presented. All chapters begin with an outline and an introduction and conclude with an extensive list of references and, occasionally, a bibliography as well. Hundreds of clear diagrams, structures, figures, and tables assist the reader in understanding the wide range of applications that are discussed. Appendixes include a glossary of terms, a description of HPLC solvent properties, and a very useful guide to preparing buffered mobile phases. There is also a comprehensive and cross-referenced index. The extensive discussions of biochemical samples (chapter 11) and chiral separations (chapter 12) are particularly valuable and provide up-to-date information on two rapidly expanding areas of HPLC. A wealth of information, and an absolute "must" for the practicing chromatographer. Upper-division undergraduates through professionals. H. T. McKone; Saint Joseph College
