CHOICE Review

This fourth edition of a work first published in 1988 describes 262 Irish repositories, updating entries from earlier editions (usually by adding Web and e-mail addresses, with some added collection description) and adding 38 new entries--mostly local authority archives--gathered via questionnaire. Entries consist of address, telephone, fax, e-mail, Web site, contact name, hours of operation, available services, and a brief description of major holdings. The first appendix lists archives that do not provide access or services of any sort for their holdings; the second lists archives that have transferred custody or responsibility for their holdings to another repository; the third supplies a list of related Irish institutions, such as professional organizations or university archives. The thorough index allows excellent access to all personal and institutional names. The type, amount, and quality of information supplied in entries varies, depending on the care taken in completing the questionnaire.
