CHOICE Review

A sweeping account of the field of dance from the perspective of women, as examined through a series of interviews and articles gathered and in some cases written by Friedler and Glazer, this volume provides an interesting and eclectic look at how women create, teach, direct, perform, and write about dance. Though divided into two books, the material is broad in scope, perhaps too broad for one volume. The editors include many interesting articles by writers from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives. Of particular interest and note is the section "The Physical Body, Theory and Practice and Using the Knowledge." All the articles are well researched and documented, and should be of great interest to established dancers as well as newcomers. Appropriate for upper-division undergraduates and graduates. J. H.
