Bowman, program director for Library and Information Studies at the School of Library, Archive and Information Studies, University College London, has crafted an easy-to-understand and well-illustrated guide designed to help library and information science students and professional librarians learn the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2) (revised 2002). Examples are primarily for books but do include some for nonbook materials. There are two beneficial features in the volume: full cross references to AACR2, which appear in the right-hand margin of the page, and basic MARC21 coding information about tags and subfields, which appears in the left-hand margin. Since it is important to balance theory with practical knowledge, it is highly recommended that this book be used in conjunction with Mary Mortimer's Learn Descriptive Cataloging (Professional Media, LJ 3/15/00).
