A companion volume to the well-known S.A. Stigant and A.C. Franklin J&P Transformer Book (10th ed., 1973) and R.T. Lythall's J&P Switchgear Book (7th ed., 1972) this new work is intended for practicing engineers seeking information on performance, construction, operation, and installation of electric motors ranging in size from 7.5 hp up to the largest manufactured. Each chapter is written by an expert in his specific area. Topics covered include variable speed drives and motor control; materials and motor components; works and acceptance testing; installation, site testing, and commissioning; and maintenance and failures. The material contained in the chapters on environment, selection, installation and commissioning, and maintenance and failures is not available in previously published machinery texts. The chapter bibliographies will be especially helpful to power engineering students, particularly at the graduate level.
