Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

Now in an expanded second edition, this book provides a practical approach to solving everyday chemical engineering problems, giving clear, detailed procedures for performing calculations, accompanied by fully worked-out examples. It details solutions to problems in: estimating physical and chemical properties; stoichiometry; phase equilibrium; chemical-reaction equilibrium; chemical-reaction kinetics; flow of fluids and solids; heat transfer; and distillation.

CHOICE Review

A compilation of solutions to example problems in 16 different areas, with contributions by 18 different industrially-oriented authors. They show calculational procedures involved in solving a variety of practical problems. However, there is virtually no discussion or presentation of the basic principles on which the applications are based. It is apparently assumed that the reader is intimately familiar with these principles and the associated assumptions and limitations (although if such were the case, there would be little need for this book). On the other hand, one could not rely upon this book to learn how to solve such problems without first obtaining a thorough grounding in the relevant principles, since such knowledge is necessary in order to intelligently and properly analyze the problems. Although most of the chapters include a list of references (in a rather awkward "paragraph" format), some chapters contain citations to references not listed. Also, notation is not always consistent, either internally or with common practice. In summary, this book as an educational tool will need to be accompanied by thorough explanations of basic principles. Professional. R. Darby; Texas A&M University
