CHOICE Review

In fewer than 200 large-type pages, with ample margin annotations, the ACS has produced an easily accessible resource for the purpose of developing effective strategies for managing laboratory wastes--from the laboratory perspective. Chapters include laws and regulations, organizational responsibilities, worker training, identification and characterization of wastes, waste reduction and handling, monitoring and control, and thoughts on how to operate reasonably with the regulatory community. A useful glossary of about 100 terms (and acronyms) is included, along with appendixes that provide a considerable number of useful items and examples, reports, sources, and resources. It is a practical compendium that should be on the desks of laboratory managers and administrators and in the back pockets of health and safety professionals in the chemical industry. (If only it had been designed with that in mind, and printed on half as many pages in a narrower trim size. But no matter; it is quite good just as it is.) Buy this book!
