Booklist Review

Although this slim volume is rather expensive, the price is justified by the many excellent, clear step-by-step illustrations of how to tie the various knots used by sailors. Along with the presentation of knots, there are well-illustrated chapters on such elements of rope technique as seizing, whipping, serving, and splicing. The author also covers rope seamanship, explaining how to correctly coil different types of rope and how to apply a rope around a cleat, hitch, or winch. Chapters on choosing and caring for rope round out this straightforward, easy-to-follow guide. Glossary and index. MH. 623.88'82 Knots and splices / Seamanship Ropework [OCLC] 87-1256
