CHOICE Review

An overview of chromatography that gives emphasis to chemical principles of separation phenomena and newer applications of chromatography, e.g., affinity chromatography. Special features include a five-page table of commonly used abbreviations and acronyms, an extensive list of chromatographic symbols, and a useful section on the literature of chromatography that cites, with brief comment, journals, reviews, handbooks, and abstracts. This basic treatment is especially useful for someone not expert in one or more chromatographic techniques discussed; thus it should be a part of any undergraduate and graduate chemistry collection. The work is divided into four parts: basic principles, gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, and applications. References given are mainly to the review literature. Separate chemical and subject indexes are included. Ravindranath is an active researcher and an author of numerous publications in the area. This book can be favorably compared with other recent one-volume, unified treatments such as, C.F. Pool and S.A. Schuette's Contemporary Practice of Chromatography (1984); Quantitative Analysis Using Chromatographic Techniques, ed. by E. Katz (1987); and J.M.
