CHOICE Review

Drago has drawn on his professional, consulting, and teaching experience, on his 60 technical papers, reports, and articles, and on 30 seminars that he has presented to produce this book. The result is an excellent general reference to the basics of gear design. He covers theory, manufacturing, inspection, failure modes, durability, strength, wear, and lubrication. Each chapter is well written and contains an extensive bibliography. Drago points out the dramatic changes that have occurred in gear design over the past 25 years and shows the increasing role of science research in these changes. The book would make a good supplement to Peter Lynwander's Gear Drive Systems (1983) or N.P. Chironis's Gear Design and Applications (1967).
