Structural fire engineering / Tom Lennon.

By: Lennon, Tom, 1963-.
Material type: materialTypeLabelBookPublisher: London : ICE Publishing, 2011Description: ix, 179 p. : ill. ; 24 cm. + hbk.ISBN: 9780727741417.Subject(s): Fire prevention | Structural engineeringDDC classification: 693.82
Contents:
Introduction -- Regulatory requirements -- Fire test and assessment procedures -- Structural fire engineering design -- Fire engineering design of concrete structures -- Fire engineering design of steel structures -- Fire engineering design of composite steel and concrete structures -- Fire engineering design of timber, masonry and aluminium structures -- Fire engineering design of connections -- Whole building behaviour and large-scale testing -- Current and future issues.
Summary: Structural Fire Engineering discusses the European standards in the context of fire engineering design and conformity to the requirements of the regulations. Containing a number of worked examples to illustrate the options for design, this book will primarily demystify the subject of structural fire engineering and identify the available design options to fulfil statutory requirements. The final chapters deal with specific issues which have arisen over the last few years and identify gaps in knowledge in relation to the performance of buildings in fire.

Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

Structural Fire Engineeringprovides comprehensive and practical design guidance on the application of structural fire engineering to specialist structural engineers.

The chapters provide an insight into the explanation of the structural fire engineering design process, its position within the regulatory system and guidance on the selection of appropriate partial factors for the fire limit state for variations in material properties and loading.

The book places structural fire engineering design procedures within a context and framework which will be familiar to many readers. The information on standard methods of test and assessment and their function within the regulatory framework provides a broader perspective to the design standards.

Structural Fire Engineering:

provides a unique approach to practical design guidance highlights the Eurocode standards in the context of fire engineering design and conformity to the requirements of the regulations demonstrates the options for design through several worked examples incorporates over 80 illustrations to complement the text provides guidance on the UK National Annexes for Eurocodes

Structural Fire Engineeringis invaluable reading for practising structural engineers, fire safety engineers, structural fire engineers, students and those who teach advanced fire design.

Author notes provided by Syndetics

Tom Lennon has worked at the British Research Establishment for over 20 years. He was responsible for the programme of full-scale fire tests carried out at BRE's large-scale test facility at Cardinton on steel, concrete and timber framed buildings. Mr Lennon has extensive experience of the Structural Eurocodes. He is a prominent member of the British Standards committee B525/-/32, the mirror group for the fire part of EC1 responsible for the implementation of the code in the UK. Mr Lennon is a member of the project team responsible for developing the draft National Annex for use with EN 1991-1-1-2. He is author of a number of papers, design guides and journal articles on the subject of structural fire engineering design.
